The work that goes on in Gwdihw to bring underappreciated bands from under-represented countries to a small venue in Cardiff is seriously impressive and worthy of a giant mince pie at least. The chilled living room-style surroundings host a fantastic spread of pan-global club nights too. One of the people responsible is Pascal Nobyn: promoter in Péchés Mignon and Micro Festival extraordinaire. Buy him a drink.

Recorded music highlights of 2010
This year has seen a wealth of music pass through my mp3 player both new and old, so it’s been hard to choose just a few. If pushed here are  my top top tips from 2010:

Belleruche – Shudder & Cry – 270 stories (Album)
Martina Topley Bird – Some Place Simple (Album)
Tanya Auclair – Illiterate – Thrum (Album)
Ahu – To: Love
Gil Scott Heron – New York Is Killing Me

Live music highlights of 2010
Again live music and local venues especially have really pulled out all the stops this year and we’ve seen hugh calibre artists from far and wide play in this fair city of ours. Here’s just a few of the stand out gigs.
Mad Professor (Globe)
United Vibrations (Gwdihw)
Roxy Rawson (Gwdihw)
VAMOS (Gwdihw)
Resonators (CAI)
Benin City (CAI)
Tanya Auclair (London)

2010 was…
Seeing Gwdihw grow, become people’s favourite haunt and really be loved by a wide range of people, and of course being part of the team behind that.  Introducing the Sundown Market, the amazing live music gigs, and our now famous Micro Festivals. All these have been particularly amazing this year.

Tips and predictions for 2011…

Gwdihw is going to be the place to watch for 2011.  We are really working hard to being more gigs, more quality/fresh/news acts, and  more Micro festivals to Cardiff next year.
