The award for best facial hair of 2010 goes to Mr Pierce: being An Actor as well as a musician the tash in question was for A Play, but it didn’t stop Gareth twiddling it between Brandyman songs like a great drumming villain. Come the end of the year and news of a second band: 2011 will see the debut of Survivalists, and hopefully some sort of giant beard involved. Ace.

Recorded music highlights of 2010

I loved the Chickenhawk and Dinosaur Pile-up albums, and although they’re not new, 2010 was the year I discovered 3hostwomexicansandatinofspanners, which can only ever be a good thing.

Live music highlights of 2010

I finally ticked something off my ‘To Do List’ of 1995, by seeing the mighty Machine Head at the Newport Centre in February. I was also mightily impressed by Screaming Females when we played with them on Halloween. Who knew watching a female Donny Osmond look-alike rip it up Hendrix-style would be so mesmerising? Oh yeah, and The Bronx were banging, as usual.

What else did you enjoy this year?

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan shooting the shit in The Trip on BBC. Chris Morris’ return with Four Lions.

2010 was… the year ‘Soundgarden’ reformed.

2011 will be… the year their fans will realise that this may not be a good thing.

Tips and predictions for 2011…

I was a particularly big fan of the EPs released by Science Bastard and Exit International this year. I think the Cardiff scene is currently in pretty good health and, who knows, maybe 2011 will be the year the rest of the UK realises it. Brandyman will kick on, and my other band Survivalists will finally kick off. Oh, and Les Savy Fav are coming to town!
