Some people are never satisfied, Welsh musicians more so than most.  One of the most exciting things about the Cardiff scene of the last five years or so is their inability to resist a guest spot, collaboration or side-project, particularly because almost without exception they’re born out of a love of dicking about with instruments and end up being brilliant fun to watch.  Witness YOKE, the meeting of Cate Le Bon and Race Horses’ Meilyr Jones.  Aside from their musical dayjobs they’ve form with Euros Childs, Richard James, Neon Neon and splendidly goofy Krautrock drinking club Meanz Heinz, and it’s the spirit of the latter that initially seems closest to this new venture. More than the snaking analogue synths though, it’s the crystalline dual vocals, queasily accelerating tempos and vintage psychedelia that define Yoke.  Think United States Of America, Silver Apples or Broadcast.

There’s footage in the beautifully shot doc below (host Bethan Elfyn, director Ryan Owen – song starts at 10.15) and an album on the way.  This is their second ever gig and Cate Le Bon collaborator H. HAWKLINE supports, fresh from the Loose Easter alldayer where a full-band Hawkline played a storming, messy and LOUD set of garagey pop nuggets with creamy 50s pop centres.  It all overlaps with the unmissable Kong gig in Clwb, but heading straight here afterwards is highly recommended.
