The Damn Blags
Born out of the wreckage of the late 90s Welsh indie scene, The Damn Blags (formerly Danblagroyd) are now to be found messing around with drum machines and sequencers in Wrexham and Cardiff. In the autumn, they are expected to complete their debut album.
They continue to receive airplay on BBC Radio 1, and BBC Radio Wales, where they have been described by DJ Adam Walton as having “a great sense of drama” and of being “consummate producers”. They were also nominated as having recorded one of the best new songs of 2007 (“Apocalypse”), and in October 2008 recorded a live session for Walton’s BBC show. In 2009 “Diolch am y Tristwch” has had extensive airplay on Radio Cymru, and BBC Radio Wales.
The band were featured on Bethan Elfyn’s “Introducing…” show on Radio 1 in 08, and they have also appeared on Dan McKerrigan’s broadcast on Dee 106.3 to talk about their music (available to hear in the Videos section of this website). They were selected as “Band of the Week” on Magi Dodd’s show on Radio Cymru, and interviewed by talent spotter Robin Owain Jones.
In March 08 the band made their TV debut on S4C’s “Bandit”, appearing on the sofa alongside the notorious Huws Stephens and Evans, and then performing their song “Y Wers” (to see their performance, visit the blog!)
The band have been busy cementing their reputation as an original live act. In 2008 they supported Metronomy at Wrexham’s celebrated Central Station, and more recently supported the acclaimed Hot Club De Paris.
In March 2008 they played for the first time in Manchester’s famous Northern Quarter, and were fortunate enough to be invited to play at the opening night of Cardiff’s extremely prestigious Swn Festival in November. TV cameras were there to capture their performance for S4Cs “Bandit”.
The band have gigged extensively across Wales and England. They have played at Callaghan’s in Cardiff (to a crowd that included Super Furry Animals front man, Gruff Rhys); at the notorious Jackson’s Pit in Oldham; at Le Pub in Newport; at Bangor’s Hendre Hall, in Snogfest 2007; in Aberystwyth battle of the bands 2008; and at Dempseys in Cardiff city centre

“Consummate producers” – Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales.
“Artists who challenge the norm when making new music” – Huw Stephens.
“Genius!” – Magi Dodd, Radio Cymru C2

Loci (pictured)
Pioneers of AGITrawk, Loci are a visceral frenzy – frustration-fuelled and low on ritalin and now it comes to an end…

Over the last 6 years Loci have left a wake of destroyed instruments and body parts across the country being hailed as “raw energy unleashed” (Punk Scene), “dark and scintillating yet vibrant and abrasive” (Toxic Pete), and as “a band that breaks the rules and with it brings a bit of fresh air to what is on the whole a boring music scene in the UK” (Street Voice).

They unleash their last ever aural assault on Oct 3rd at Le Pub, Newport. Come. Bring tears.
Artikae
Artikae are a fierce foursome [and you thought threesomes were exciting] – you ain’t seen nothing yet, or heard anything like this! These guys & gal put out a rock edged alternative funky soul twisted vibe. Artikae are the kind of band with enough distinctive ability to incorporate various styles into their music whilst keeping it real, having their own sound, creating something completely fun-ky fresh and oh so different in today’s stale scene. Artikae stand out from the crowd with high energy live shows, and an attitude to rock your socks off! Not forgetting their humble approach, dedication and passion for making music, Artikae create from the heart and are inspired by what surrounds them… writing what’s within. The creative process is none other than randomesque… simply to follow the minds desired path without question! Artikae, are Kat on Vocals, Brad on Drums, Toodlez on Bass, and Joe on Guitar. All band mates have worked with a number of leading musicians with over 40 years in the industry, both successful and highly experienced. Their definately one to watch out for! And as 2010 is soon upon us, the band have a busy schedule ahead… teaming up with ACE founder of Skunk Anansie, record producer, and guitar legend… recording at none other than Z-Noise Studios, London… I urge to check these guys n gal out!
