Everyone loves a good cliche, and all good things must come to an end is
a good cliche.

The Family, aka Matt Skelly, has kept Howard Gardens hydrated with musiks for almost four years. In that time the UWIC art school, hidden away behind nondescript tower blocks on Newport Road, proved itself as incubator for some of Cardiff’s best indie talent, nurturing The Wave Pictures, Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club and the Threatmantics among others. All those bands have been able to call The Family their home, but due to the pressures of modern city living on May 29 the Family will take a bow. But not before drowning in cider and vomiting in the corner, one last time.

Headlining the night are Caerdydd monuments the Threatmantics. Their last Family appearance in Halloween was noted by the Joy Collective its half assed costumes and torn off limbs in the mosh pit. Sadly their mini-album was criminally ignored by the powers that be, despite being the best example of country-funk-punk this side of Woking, but the capital knows a good headfuck when it sees one and will be out in force. They better be, because Hedd, Huw and Ceri’s jaunty train track folk infected take on noise slips down an esophagus like a good neat whiskey, with similar intoxicating effects. They are not some crap local band, sir. They’re some fucking awesome local band.

Welsh language party-ists Jen Jeniro, also a Family favourite, will provide double-D support, together with kareoke superstar Tim Ten Yen and even more ultra special secret guests yet to be announced. Details at the moment remain sketchy – for all we know a legion of Edwardian ladies may take the stage – but firm art school stalwarts are promised to delight and entertain. And if that wasn’t enough, outside we are promised a BBQ, acoustic acts, live art, stalls, and even more Family history entertainment. Anything could happen,
anything could happen. £5 advance from We Got Tickets. Come and mourn with us.
