Another Loose gig! Yey! I like Loose gigs, mainly because they’re always really fucking good and constantly different. This Saturday we go a bit folky.

WOODPIGEON are from Calgary, Alberta, and their otherworldly almost-orchestral pop was born when heartbreak sent Mark Hamilton home from Scotland in 2005. The band are often compared to Sufjan Stevens, Grizzly Bear and Belle & Sebastian. To date the band have released 2 studio albums (both of which I own) and a number of EPs, and have toured with Broken Social Scene, Iron and Wine and Calexico. They are signed to End Of The Road, if you like the sort of band associated with said record label’s marvellous little festival then you’ll love these.

“Delightful..poetic and effortlessy gorgeous” – The Word

“Rich acoustic chamber pop with quietly barbed lyrics” – UNCUT

THE LOOSE SALUTE play sunny, happy, rainbow-flecked music influenced by The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde. Debut album ‘Tuned to Love’ was written by Ian whilst playing drums for Mojave 3, and recorded at London’s Fortress Studios, where he came across the voice of Lisa Billson. The band then added multi-instrumentalists on percussion, guitar, glock, keys, bass, banjo, pedal steel and sax.

HAIL! THE PLANES are from Cardiff playing ‘a folky racket’ influenced by Do Make Say Think, Grandaddy, Joanna Newsom and Joan of Arc. They’ve so far released a 4-track EP and are currently recording some new tracks, featuring Lee’s impulse-purchased double bass.
