Readers with better memories will remember Peggy Sue And The Pirates playing out a few years ago in these parts, most notably a stripped down appearance at 2008’s Swn festival. Back then their thing was bluesy folk hollering; nowadays the Pirates have left and a new fire in the belly is present. Having only just released their debut album, Peggy Sue are a rattling, nervy, sad and angry proposition, guitar, drums and accordian whirling these tales around your smiling face. An early gig suckers.

PEGGY SUE is Rosa Rex and Katy Klaw from Brighton via London. Their friendship was originally based on a mutual appreciation of teen film ‘Empire Records’ and an unspoken rivalry about their collections of Regina Spektor bootlegs.

Then in January 2006, Katy was offered a gig and asked Rosa along to keep her company on stage. The duo played 3 songs, one of which they wrote that night and Peggy Sue was born. Olly Olly Olly joined the band while dusting through the streets of Austin in 2008…

Since then, Peggy Sue have toured with the likes of KATE NASH, MUMFORD AND SONS and THE MACCABEES. In late 2009 Peggy Sue signed with WICHITA RECORDINGS (Los Campesinos, Euros Childs, Lovvers, First Aid Kit, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Those Dancing Days, The Dodos..)

“they combat melancholy with some startlingly abrasive, PJ Harvey-style guitars, giddy whirls of accordion, and a thrilling array of clattering, thundering, sharp and snappy percusison from their show-stealing drummer, Olly Joyce”- 4* The Guardian
