blitzen trapper1This gig is going to be brilliant.  Since I previewed it out of excitement a couple of months ago, Martin Carr has been added to the bill.  This is great because:

A)  Martin Carr is great and

B)  Because he looks a bit like one of the guys in Blitzen Trapper.

BLITZEN TRAPPER is a Portland-based experimental folk rock band for fans of WILCO, BIG STAR, PAVEMENT, BEACHWOOD SPARKS, NEIL YOUNG and early BECK.

Since 2000 they self-released 3 albums, including the critically acclaimed ‘Wild Mountain Nation’ before the band signed to Sub Pop in 2007. ‘Furr’ was released last year, ranking no. 13 in Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2008.

“an essential 13-song LP with no filler..this imaginative, heartfelt collection is more intimate than its predecessor.. proof that this already-great band gets even better as they define themselves more specifically” – 8.5 PITCHFORK

“Blitzen keep their songs highly tuneful, making Furr a breakthrough worthy of toasting with a microbrew, or several” – 4/5 ROLLING STONE

“Furr is the work of an assured band that are in confident command of their craft. And like puzzle pieces slotting perfectly into place, the steady rolling of their melodies like the turning of a wheel, seem to make sense even as they drive into strange places and the mysterious language of dreams” – 8/10 DROWNEDINSOUND

Martin Carr is responsible for the following (courtesy of his myspace):

The Boo Radleys 1989 – 99 Ichabod and I/ Everything’s Alright Forever/ Giant Steps/ Wake Up!/ C’mon Kids/ Kingsize/ bravecaptain 1999 – 2006 The Fingertipsaint Sessions Vol 1/ The Fingertipsaint Sessions Vol 2/ Advertisements For Myself/ I Am A Lion (ep)/ All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace/ 2005 Singles Club/ Distractions/

What more do you need to know?  OK, here‘s Martin playing a song off his new album.

The Ash & The Oak‘s closest comparison is probably the band they’re supporting!  Folky and Country songs washed over with west coast pop.

If all this wasn’t enough, you can listen to DJ Vivers and DJ Interiormonologue representing.  Or playing sort of country tinged indie rock between bands.  Badly.
