Something in your eye? A fine night of advanced quality, hushed folk music here, as stellar support line up behind a deserved album release spotlight. As The Gentle Good, Gareth Bonello has been sailing ace waters for a few years now, his music unhurried and plush, cocooned in dusty words and clouds of finger picking. It’s quite the treat, and there’s nothing to suggest newbie ‘Tethered For The Storm’ will be anything less. Big treats on the bill too: Richard Jamesis also something of a Cardiff regular, on the stage and at the bar, but regular exposure to his quiet and golden tones hasn’t blunted their effect yet. And we’re bored of telling you how good the mangled psychfolk of H. Hawkline is by now, so we’ll just say recent appearances have been full of new material and gently slanted songs, and have been rubbish, so get there late. (They were great, natch) The only other thing to say is wave to Rylatt, because he likes that.

Tethered For the Storm is The Gentle Good’s long-awaited second album, and we’re proud to host the launch here at The Globe.
Gareth Bonello, the man behind The Gentle Good, captures the essence of old Welsh hiraeth in one CD. He feeds his original songs with the essence of traditional folk tunes, yet succeeds in delivering something new. A something that, as with all fine folk offerings, will stand the test of time.
Gareth Bonello has been performing, writing and collaborating under the stage name The Gentle Good since 2003, when he began playing folk songs around the pubs and clubs of his native Cardiff. By today The Gareth has performed throughout the UK, and his music has been played on BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Wales as well as both Radio 1 and 2.
His honest and tender vocals are well matched to an intricate guitar style that owes much to the great guitarists of the 60s folk revival. A dedicated multi-instrumentalist, his recordings are layered with subtle string arrangements, banjos, mandolins and glockenspiels. As well as performing his own songs Gareth also performs traditional Welsh folk songs and sings both in Welsh and in English.
