Like a lot of cities, Newport on a Friday night might seem as terrifying as Joseph Ratzinger climbing through your window at night, gripping your uncompleted census form between his teeth. You need a bolthole, and this gig will provide shelter, cheap booze and, oh yeah, decent music too. You may have seen The Ash And The Oak on a number of occasions; their refined is constantly maturing, like a posh cheese that doesn’t laugh at willy jokes. They’re swish, trust us. Newer and younger bucks flesh out the bill, with the guaranteed quality promise that Gathered In Song always seems to provide. Look, they’ve put on this gig for free! And double look, they’ve just booked the great Sarabeth Tucek for May! Facts in your face.

Get yourself to Le Pub in Newport, Gwent on april fool’s day to catch a handfull of brill welsh bands – free entry. Honest! x

Our favourite Welsh band for several years now, it’s about time we offered these fine purveyors of melancholy folky brilliance a well deserved headline show.

Indeed, Gathered In Song regulars should already be familiar with the band, but with their second album nearing completion hopefully this gig will provide some new songs to fall in love with. If you don’t know them, but like the music of Fleet Foxes, Elliott Smith or Vetiver, then quite frankly you’re in for a treat.

Chailo Sim’s debut album has seen them garnering widespread attention, receiving significant airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music over the last couple months from the likes of Huw Stephens, Jen Long, Tom Robinson and others. The band also completed a fantastic session for Bethan Elfyn’s show on Radio Wales.

Don’t forget April 1st Le Pub.
