Gathered In Song are back with a very laid back Saturday folk fest.  The ideal way to chill out after a busy week in work.  GiS’s gigs are always top drawer.  Begin your August gig going with this little gem.

RUE ROYALE
Fans of Sufjan Stevens, Damien Jurado, Joy Zipper, Laura Veirs, Great Lake Swimmers or the kind of folky pop you find a lot of on Sub Pop these days, will find a lot to love in husband and wife duo Rue Royale. They spend their lives touring the world, seeing faraway places and performing their lovely, life-affirming songs together in people’s front rooms and venues they usually bring to a revered hush.

THE ASH AND THE OAK
Main support comes in the form of lovely lo-fi beauty from Newport’s own The Ash and The Oak, one of our very favourite local acts of the past few years. Influenced by the harmonies and delicate melodies of Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Mamas and The Papas and George Harrison and adding some contemporary Fleet Foxes/Bon Iver style magic, TAATO released their debut self-titled album last year on Country Mile Records.

NICK SMITH
Nick Smith’s acoustic persona, offering a lilting Elliot Smith-ish charm, is the the Dr Jekyll to the rum swilling Mr Hyde of punk rock institution Blackbeard. A great supporter of many of our shows its really good to have him play again.

THE FLYING SPIDER REVIVAL
TFSR are three men and a gnarled fistful of the transmundane. They deal in murder ballads and songs from the dustbowl, delivered in the style of Willard Grant Conspiracy, The Handsome Family and in the spirit of Johnny Cash and Townes Van Zandt.

Doors 8pm, first act 8.30pm prompt

All in all a great free soundtrack to a few relaxing beers on a Saturday night.
