Word to the wise, this might already be sold out.  The finality of that phrase when applied to a venue that’s essentially a pantry with chairs with a loose capacity of about 35 is moot, though, so stragglers may wish to take a punt on strolling up Crwys Road to the Thé Pot anyway.  Wince-inspiring name aside, they’d be handsomely rewarded by nice cheap home cooking, a well-stocked beer fridge and a showcase for the debut release from two of Cardiff’s finest folk ensembles.  Bubblewrap have their business model pretty much nailed-on; from established graphic design company dabbling in releasing friends’ music to a full-time label with a growing roster of prolific folk and indie turns like Lucky Delucci, Little My, Ivan Moult and ex-Fredrick Stanley Star frontman Will Hughes’ Little Arrow.

Their eighth release pairs the stirring, delicately crafted folk of perma-gigging foursome EVENING CHORUS with their gorgeously melancholic kindred spirits in BAREFOOT DANCE OF THE SEA.  EC could easily succumb to M*mf*rd-esque faux-folk bluster, but ‘Decisions’ showcases a dexterity and touching simplicity which is hugely appealing.  Lovely guest harmonies from BDOTS too; their ‘531 Miles From Aberdeen To Cardiff’ on the flip is a slow burner by their standards but one typical of their ever-strengthening writing and more adventurous arrangement.  Bubblewrap will swiftly follow up the split single with a six-track BDOTS EP in May which is an utter corker.

Check with Thé Pot for spaces, otherwise pick up the 7″ at http://www.bubblewrapcollective.co.uk/shop.htm and bide your time till the bands play again.  Shouldn’t be long.
