Young men who’ve already seen the Vivian Girls live may be salivating at this point. Probably young women too. Best Coast is basically one Californian woman, Bethany Cosentino, who makes lo-fi rock music that even the most uptight dorks can shuffle to, while being at the same time, let’s be honest, Quite Hot. Listen to her MySpace NOW and get dragged under waves of distorted girl group harmonies, buried under gentle layers of fuzzed out surfer pop. Sneaking suspicion: this will be heartbreak brilliant.

For Bethany Cosentino, living up to all the media hype surrounding her musical endeavor has undoubtedly been a harrowing experience. She’s the lead singer/songwriter of Best Coast—the lo-fi surf rock outfit out of Southern California that’s been getting loads of attention over the past year. Before even releasing an album of full length material, several prominent music publications have lauded the group as one of the more important bands to watch in 2010. Despite not having released an LP, the band, or possibly more accurately, Cosentino, has largely built a reputation with rousing live shows that highlight the group’s fondness of jangly guitar riffs, erstwhile pop vocals and retro Ringo Starr-esque drum accompaniments.
