Bang! Into 2011 with two great Bristol promoters and a fine example of DIY organisation that YOU should support. There may be another band added to this, but it’s doubletop class already: half of In Zaire used to be in the noisy G.I. Joe, and will bring the same level of serrated energy, this time in a mind-altering, brain-bashing, afropsych form. A split LP with Skull Defekts should give you an idea of quality levels. They’re joined by Nope, a new band from Oop North, dishing metronomic attack-kraut courtesy of ex-That Fucking Tank and Mucky Sailor members. Again, that’s proper pedigree. This’ll be a gold star in a bleak month. Get in.

This January warm up your cold winter heart and dispel the post-festive blues with a dose of tribal psychedelic dance drone from two groups from differing countries and climes.

In Zaire come from Sunny Italy via Berlin. You may recognise a couple of members from being excellent Lightning Bolty noise-rockers GI Joe. In this guise they explore further the afrobeat trance-party territory hinted at in their two-piece form with an extended line up of layered voodoo rhythm percussiveness, wacked-out noise, and spiritual chantish vocals. Party lads party hard.

Nope are a related beast emerging from the bleaker landscapes of Yorkshire’s thread-towns, moors and valleys. Psychedlic washes of synths provide the backdrop for pounding unrelinquishing note repetition and thump-drumming that may call to mind a beefed up Neu! and other Krautrockers. The members CVs include big-noise duos That Fucking Tank and Mucky Sailor. Best enjoyed dancing after a fat chongo.

Both bands will also be flogging a self-released tour only tape. See them in following places at the following times:

Tuesday 11th – Cowley Club, Brighton
Wednesday 12th – The Croft, Bristol (front room)
Thursday 13th – The Red House, Sheffield
