While not as balls-out there as mutant jazz bands like The Thing, Acoustic Ladyland make a fine racket, skronky and pummelling, playful and awkward. They flit between nervy film soundtracking and short bursts of hot noise, and as a bonus, you can make tiresome comments about the drummer’s hair. Two gigs either side of the Channel here, with the Cardiff date hosting the pick of the supports: get there early for Cook, Capper, Davies, the free-wheeling, every-direction, guitar/violin/banjo/whatever improv band. Because they’re great.

After a decade of all-out sonic warfare on the jazz scene, ACOUSTIC LADYLAND are to deliver a ferocious parting shot with their farewell UK tour, before undergoing a self-imposed musical makeover.
The change of direction will see many of the same personnel but with a new sound and name.
Their tour gives audience members a sneak preview of new material, and a final chance to experience the old material live.
