How many ‘fuck’s can you see on this page? Did you say one when you saw the line up? You probably should’ve: this gig is as stuffed as a Polyfilled turkey. Bristol champs Absofuckingexactly are getting pretty good at this, and bring so much here that we’ll pick out just a few of the highlights. Drum Eyes would be the most obvious, and not just because WE’RE PUTTING THEM ON IN CARDIFF ON JANUARY 21ST. Ahem. DJ Scotch Egg has gathered various members of the Boredoms, I’m Being Good, Sloth and others, for double drumming mentalness, freewheeling lysergic noise and unexpected alien pop turns. Awooga. Also worthy of your time is Max Tundra, Ben Jacobs’ home-brewed turn as a short-arsed electronica-addled Prince, and top-flight entertainment. One more then: don’t miss Klad Hest, for you will miss one of Team Brick’s new outfits, this one spazzing out to bizarro video game bleeps. The name means ‘Happy Horse’ by the way. Just one more thumbs up-worthy element to this chocka evening of very good-ness. Don’t be a fool.

One day, the teenage Ben Jacobs bought a Commodore Amiga 500 home computer. Armed with this and a £1 piece of music software, he began to explore the world of electronic composition. Eventually he got so good at using this cheap set-up that back in 1998 Warp Records released his first single.
“Warp were the only label who were interested in my first tune,” says Ben. “I sent my demo tape to fifty labels in all, but most people freaked out. A couple of guys made the bizarre criticism that I had too many ideas.” This criticism has frequently dogged MAX TUNDRA (as he was hereby renamed), in a musically diverse, eclectic career where time signatures, musical genres and instrumentation have been given the thorough shake-up they have long needed.

DRUM EYES are DJ Scotch Egg’s drum thunder worship gang. Experts
at whipping up a hypnotic maelstrom of tribal drumming trip-outs infused
with sludgy doom and weird electronics. It makes a lot of sense that Eda –
originally from the Boredoms – is a member of Drum Eyes, as the songs can
twist 180 degrees and sound equally as beamed-in from some alien kingdom,
taking the weirdest parts of Krautrock and hurling punk-synth, crushing walls
of ambience and 8-bit frazzle into the mix with relish.

PURE – DJ Set (Crónica/Duumvirat/dOc)
Beginning life as one half of Austrian early rave pioneers Ilsa Gold, Pure
has been releasing music since the early 90’s. Now working in the darker
and heavier domains of the sonic universe he creates hypnotic, soundtrack-
like sound pieces that trigger associations of dreams and science fiction
novels using a mix of electroacoustic composition, sound synthesis, and live
electronics.
