Delightful people, the Shape lot. Last Saturday they returned the new look Truckers Of Husk to the live fold (new stuff featured 80s pomp and rockabilly and was good – review soon(ish)); the next Function sees the debut of something of a shady supergroup. Wickes rolls together Rob of the home-fi Voluntary Butler Service, Steve ‘Sweet Baboo’ Black, the wayward-haired Huw Evans (of Meanz Heinz, Stacking Chairs, anyone that’ll have him) and fine local filmmaker and ex-School tinker Ryan Owen. While this event will allegedly feature just the stripped down two-piece Wickes, it’s clearly still local history in the making, as Jay-Z would say. Turn up early, not just because The Rockin’ Chair is pretty tiny, but also to hear the fuzzy pastoral guitar of H. Hawkline, also one those blokes mentioned above. Guess now.
