In your face with a silver spike! Chrome Hoof are like a massive sandwich made from glam, disco, prog, metal, actual metal, high heels, weirdness, funk, more metal, no indie and a load of great. They will basically kill you with great. Also featuring the gospelrocking Invasion, last seen touring with hyped rubbishers Bo Ningen. Wear shades, even though you’ll be in the belly of a boat.

CHROME HOOF: Cathedral bassist Leo Smee started a bass and drums duo under the moniker Chrome Hoof with his brother Milo at the turn of the millennium to celebrate their shared love of mid-seventies funk and disco. Like sequined pied pipers, they recruited everywhere they played, building an army of multi-instrumentalists, including a full horn and string section, generating a devoted cult following with their legendary live shows. A veritable orchestra of musicians perform, decked out in futuristic monks’ robes, kicking it like some unholy hybrid of Sun Ra, ESG, Goblin, Parliament-Funkadelic and Black Sabbath, complete with choreographed dancers, actors taking vaudeville interludes, and a twelve-foot tall metallic ram dominating the dancefloor.

INVASION: If Pink Floyd were raised on a diet of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine hamburgers and breastfed on black absinthe, they may have enjoyed making music upside down in space, and will have found the fruits of their labour strung out in psychedelic shadow like The Master Alchemist. The band’s stripped down retro, garage metal has a lot in common with the caustic elements of Sabbath, The Sword and Monster Magnet, but finds equal grounding in the stoned musings of Hawkwind, Kyuss and Sleep. Like an amalgamation of Metallica’s ‘Blackened’ overdubbed with Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s ‘Blinded by the Light.’ In the band’s own words: “It should sound pretty good when you’re stoned.” (The Quietus)
