In 2004 a collection of their recordings featured as “Demo of the Week” in the Camden New Journal, where their music was described as “scarily haunting”. Some of the demos were available over this period as free downloads at the now discontinued admass.net.
In late 2006 they decided to reform, and quickly established themselves as “artists who challenge the norm when making new music”, in the words of Huw Stephens (Western Mail, May 23rd 2008).
They continue to receive airplay on BBC Radio 1, and BBC Radio Wales, where they have been described by DJ Adam Walton as having “a great sense of drama” and of being “consummate producers”. They were also nominated as having recorded one of the best new songs of 2007 (“Apocalypse”), and in October 2008 recorded a live session for Walton’s BBC show.
The band was featured on Bethan Elfyn’s “Introducing…” show on Radio 1 in January this year. They were also selected as “Band of the Week” on Magi Dodd’s show on Radio Cymru in June, and were interviewed by talent spotter Robin Owain Jones.
In March the band made their TV debut on S4C’s “Bandit”, appearing on the sofa alongside the notorious Huws Stephens and Evans, and then performing their song “Y Wers”.
The band have been busy cementing their reputation as an original live act. In February they supported Metronomy at Wrexham’s celebrated Central Station, and more recently supported the acclaimed Hot Club De Paris.
In November 2008 they were invited to play at the opening night of Cardiff’s extremely prestigious Swn Festival. TV cameras were there to capture their performance for S4Cs “Bandit”. In March they also played for the first time in Manchester’s famous Northern Quarter to an enthusiastic reception.
In 2007 they played at Callaghan’s in Cardiff to a crowd that included Super Furry Animals front man, Gruff Rhys; at the prestigious Jackson’s Pit in Oldham; and at what many Welsh acts celebrate as the best venue in Wales – Bangor’s Hendre Hall, in Snogfest 2007.
They are close to completing their debut album, which will be available in 2009. A collection of their miscellaneous demos from 1996-2006 is also planned as a limited release.

Don’t Tread On Spiders
“Cardiff’s Don’t Tread On Spiders are a trio with a love of lo-fidelity rock ‘n roll….try throwing the terms “indie”, “post punk”, “arty” and even “pop” at them, it all sticks. Founded in the Summer of 2007 they’ve been working hard on home-made material such as the angular “My Week In Shinjuku” and folksy “Together Again”. Radio Wales DJ Adam Walton played the “My Week In Shinjuku” demo only five days after it was uploaded on MySpace, and new demo “Get Up and Go” has also just received some air play.

Influences include a mixture of Velvet Underground, The Kills, White Stripes and David Bowie……all beaten and whisked by a piece of Beatles White Album vinyl.

In previous incarnation “The Days”, DTOS has appeared on the Twisted By Design’s “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The 22 Of Us” compilation, and were NME Number 1 Breaking Band in November 2006. They’ve also had a song used by BBC Wales for it’s Arts Mundi programme, and have been invited to play in some uber-cool London venues; including the living room sized Betsy Trotwood and Libertine’s haunt Rythm Factory.
The first DTOS official release is the Monomyth EP available since the 24th November 2008.
Don’t Tread On Spiders have a diligent ambition to become one of the scene’s top indie acts, and will continue to write and release more songs either independently or preferably with a record label over the coming year.”

The Odyssey Xp
Newport based trio, The Odyssey Xp, bring you a soundscape of indie/ambient music with elements of early nirvana grunge.
