Bringing some of the biggest names in international americana and alt. folk to South Wales over two days&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Buy a ticket for one show or a discounted weekend package which includes a free bus service from Ponty to Porthcawl after the show on Saturday.\u00a0 Diverse and Spillers have tickets to this (\u00a319 inc BF), the Sunday (same price) and it&#8217;s \u00a333 for both gigs and the bus.<\/p>\n<p>Sun 6th September 2009 @ The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl<br \/>\n1.00pm-11.00pm<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/vetiverse\"><strong>VETIVER<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nBased around lush, acoustic textures; simple yet charming, effective arrangements; and a core of really strong writing, Vetiver\u2019s sound takes influence from a deep well of influences &#8211; late-\u201960s pastoral folk, tropicalia, \u201970s west coast rock, and much more beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Lead singer and songwriter Andy Cabic\u2019s close friendship and regular collaborations with the likes of Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Mazzy Star\u2019s Hope Sandoval have helped Vetiver develop a celebrated following on the psych-folk scene, but with each release Cabic\u2019s own talent has gently ambled towards centre stage. Tight Knit, the band\u2019s latest album, and first for the groundbreaking Bella Union label, sounds blissfully warm and analogue in essence, capturing Cabic\u2019s spirited modern twist on country and folk rock with a sympathetic ear.<\/p>\n<p>After the success of labelmates Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver last year it seems timely that Vetiver\u2019s music should find crossover success, and undoubtedly, Tight Knit is a deeply accomplished album that\u2019s sure to hit the spot for anyone with any degree of susceptibility to classy Americana.<\/p>\n<p>Vetiver\u2019s songs have been described as \u201cdreamy, gentle songs that George Harrison would have written in some sunny country garden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201ca complex hybrid somewhere between the Kinks at their most relaxed and the Band at their most committed, Vetiver have made a record that\u2019s as summery as a field full of butterflies.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n&#8211; Observer Music Monthly<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/magnoliaelectricco\"><strong><br \/>\nMAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO<\/strong><\/a> (Pictured above)<br \/>\nDespite the major labels\u2019 best efforts, a huge diversity of indie music continues to thrive in out-of-the-way corners of America, part of an underground network of inspired invention that\u2019s chosen to simply ignore the ossified mainstream.
