\u512a\u308c! 30 years isn’t a long time if you’re\u00a0forever young. Shonen Knife<\/strong> formed in 1981 and have been kept perfectly\u00a0preserved by worshipping at the altar of the Ramones ever since (a constantly changing line up leaving Naoko Yamana as the only founding member still rocking helps too). In fact the anniversary model is currently touting a whole tribute album, Osaka Ramones (a name they’ve also played under), which is boner-worthy in itself. It is also a scientific fact that exposure to their songs, especially\u00a0in synchronized outfit-enhanced live format, cures depression, dyspepsia and herpes. So no excuses here: two chances to see Japan’s premier fizzpop rockers and all the benevolent warm feelings that go with them. Two years ago they hit Buffalo as part of this<\/a> frankly great line up; this year’s must see support is Camarthen’s Super Cute Voices<\/strong>, whose Polysics\/Squeeze\/robot sex thing we raved about recently<\/a>. Get there early, enjoy, wait for ‘Jet’. And, you know, maybe some other covers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Japanese all girl Rock trio celebrate 30 years of groundbreaking poppy-punk Osaka rock and their 15th album ‘Free time’.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1981 from a love of the Ramones, they were one of Kurt Cobain’s (Nirvana) favourite bands and toured with Nivana, Sonic Youth and The Breeders. They are the most influential Japanese band in history. As Naoko said “2011 is our 30th anniversary, let’s ROCK!”<\/p>\n

‘No cars’ means ‘farmers’ in Japanese and No Cars are three 17 year old girls from Japan, now residing in Brighton and London. They sing cute and quirky songs on oddball subjects. Their debut album ‘Yoko Eats Whales’ includes songs about David Bowie, farms, octopus and sellotape! Possessing a quirky fun garage pop sound you’ll probably hear in the next Tarantino movie, No Cars “play 1950s heartbreak classics with the odd screaming breakdown thrown in to keep the punks happy. No Cars are a bubblegum band, and the audience is chewing.” -Artrocker magazine.<\/p>\n
